Although Marni doesn’t enjoy a preeminent spot among fashion’s most powerful bag designers like some of the its Italian counterparts, you have to give the brand credit – Marni sticks to its quirky retro-modern aesthetic with a slavishness that has won it scads of fans who aren’t afraid of a bit of a fashion risk.
I’ve never been absolutely bowled over by a Marni handbag, but but they’re consistently unique and well-made, which goes a long way in a crowded accessories marketplace. There wasn’t much new showing up on my favorite website haunts (obviously aside from the fabulous bags going down the runway at Milan Fashion Week right now). But I did find a little gem from Jimmy Choo. And I am liking what I am seeing. The Jimmy Choo Alina replica is quite simple but somehow drawing me in.

The overall look is nothing short of plain, but plain in a way that is not overly boring. And that task is hard to complete. Chanel in particular has released a number of flap bags that come with their own rain coats in recent years, but other than a nylon tote here or there, most brands don’t take on the challenge of designing for bad weather. I live in a city that gets more inches of rain per year than Seattle, and I, for one, appreciate Valentino’s effort on behalf of those of us who experience real weather from time to time.
There’s one notable problem with this design if it’s supposed to be used in the rain – the top doesn’t zip shut, it merely has a magnetic snap in the middle. That won’t be of much help if there’s more than a little precipitation, but at least the exterior of the bag won’t permanently spot from the moisture like many similarly colored leathers.
The flowers that adorn the bag’s exterior are signature Valentino Bag knockoffs and very well done, but for the price, I’d just buy one of the brand’s many beautifully detailed leather bags and carry a collapsible nylon tote in the bottom to shield it from sudden precipitation. Hopefully, though, more designers will take on the rain-resistent challenge and we’ll soon have more options when the weather forecast isn’t perfect.

If it keeps making bags like the Versace Hilary Satchel, there’s hope for the brand yet.
Instead of the over-the-top, mismatched styling that we’ve seen from the brand in the past, this bag’s design has been edited down to just the parts necessary to keep some of the Versace attitude. Most of that comes by way of the round hardware motif that dots the front of the bag, but it doesn’t distract at all from the beautifully textured and glazed purple leather underneath. Instead of having multiple colors, patterns and types of hardware compete with each other, this bag’s elements all work work together.
It’s not often that I see a Versace bag and think, wow, I would totally be able to work that in to my wardrobe, but that’s exactly the reaction I had to this bag. Medium-to-dark purple is a rich color that looks great against black and grey for winter, and it provides a bit of color to an outfit without looking season-inappropriate during colder weather. The abundance of hardware is typical of the Versace aesthetic, but in this iteration it doesn’t take away from the beauty of the leather or compete with the overall design. It fits.
The bag also seems to be at least reasonably functional. I wish it was a tad deeper, but as it is the design should still offer plenty of interior room for your everyday stuff without getting too bulky or heavy. The only problem, of course, is the price. If Versace wants to spark renewed interest from skeptical bag buyers, they need to consider a significantly different price point. I am finally finding myself to be over the stud trend. I liked it, I bought it, I wore it, and now I am over it. But there are still few bags that bring in some stud-like hardware that is not typical of the studded bag rage and perfect to add a metal touch. I have always been attracted to the Hermes Medor Clutch and this weekend it is my latest obsession.
The design itself is inherently simple, with nothing about the size or look of the body of the clutch standing out. But the hardware (I am unsure whether I prefer black or silver on the black box leather), is distinctive, eye-catching, and bold. And it is the hardware that makes anyone looking at this clutch say, ‘Oh, that is Hermes alright‘. There is a small, 23 cm, and large 29 cm, size. The leather is box skin, which is sturdy yet shows scratches more easily than many Hermes lindy replica leathers. And while the leather version is beautiful, the Spring 2009 collection sent a green exotic skin onto the runway that makes me want to see this bag in a rouge croc before ever settling on leather. Balenciaga animal print First for their 10th Anniversary
I am actually totally excited by all things related to Balenciaga’s 10th Anniversary right now. First we had the metallic finished bags at Neiman Marcus, then the lizard embossed First version, and now an animal print Balenciaga First. And this version is by far the most ‘out there‘ of the group, but it is also the one that takes the biggest chance.
I re-fell in love with the floral S/S 2008 BBag and now I am captivated by the Balenciaga Animal Print First.
I have learned my lesson. I have to see a Balenciaga bag in person before I make another purchase. I hope this bag is not exclusive to online shopping, because Vlad and I will be in NYC this weekend and I would love to check this bag out in person. It has a chance to be amazing and a chance to be a mess. I want it to be amazing. I want to buy it and wear it with jeans, heels, and a simple top. I want people to look at it and wonder when exactly Balenciaga made this bag and why. Because let’s face it, this is not a safe choice.

In case you have previously considered the idea of wearing a $10,000 purse as a gym bag and ruled it out, Hermes would apparently like you to rethink that decision.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s entire Hermes Spring 2010 collection was a riff on country club chic, and enormous Kellys and Birkins as workout wear, replete with leather tennis ball carriers, were the icing on top of the luxe-prepster cake. Obviously the idea that a white travel Kelly should be slung around the local tennis court is in jest, but the aesthetic does work nicely with the ultraclean lines of Hermes’s signature bags.
Overall, though, I didn’t find myself nearly as blown away as I usually do when looking at a series of the world’s finest handbags. I have wondered before why Hermes replica bags doesn’t use more snakeskin in their line, and the oversized python Birkins and Kellys answered that quite nicely – it just doesn’t work. All of the snakeskin bags looked rumpled and, dare I say it, fake. Unless there’s a point that I’m missing, I’m surprised that Gaultier let them walk the runway.
Overall, I find myself a little underwhelmed. The exotic clutches were predictably drool-inducing, and the tennis influence that found its way into the accessories line is very appropriate for brand whose customers probably all count themselves as members of various country clubs. But with the resources and craftsmanship that Hermes has at their disposal, I was hoping for a bit more.

We’re sure to bring out the haters with this news, but hey, it’s Friday!
Above is a picture of Kim Kardashian (you may have heard of her, yes?) exiting the Paris Hermes store, a trail of signature orange shopping bags behind her (and carrying a $1795 Christian Louboutin Kathena Leopard Clutch, in case anyone was wondering). According to Gawker and TMZ, rumor has it that she dropped in, bought six regular leather Hermes Birkins knockoffs at around $10,000 each, and then bought another handbag (although the article does not stipulate which one) in crocodile to the tune of $30,000.
Depending on sizes and leathers (and on what we know about Ms. Kardashian’s sometime extravagant taste), the prices sound approximately accurate to me. I guess we’ll find out if this is true in the coming weeks, since Kim loves to parade around a particularly good purchase for all to see (not that I can blame her, certainly – I used to make my roommate sit and look at all of my new stuff when I would come home from the mall).
What’s perhaps most interesting about this item, though, is that Hermes Paris had six Birkins in stock to sell and they were willing to sell them all to the same person. I don’t know the ins and outs of that particular location, but it looks as though the days of the year-long waiting lists really are over for good, as Hermes had announced previously. The Birkins may not always be sitting on the shelves at your local boutique, but odds are that they’re in the back. For the right customer, of course.

With hundreds of events happening for Fashion Night Out this year, we decided against saturating our website with every single event. Actually, we didn’t even cover one. But that changes now and it is because I absolutely positively love the bag that is being launched. Ferragamo does FNO properly by giving us a fantastic bag to remember their event by.
To celebrate new Creative Director, Massimiliano Giornetti’s first womenswear collection, Salvatore Ferragamo is launching the W Bag. The W bag is named for the House’s matriarch, Mrs. Wanda Ferragamo, and was originally designed in the seventies by her daughter Fiamma.
Friday night at Ferragamo handbag replica will focus on the signature W bag. Hosts will include Alek Wek, Ashley Wick, Elettra Wiedemann and Caroline Winbergalong. Also, Vogue editors Lauren Santo Domingo and Valerie Boster will be joining to celebrate the bag. A percentage of the evening’s sales will benefit the Whitney Museum of American Art.

I have decided that Lady Gaga performs makeovers on her Hermes Birkins just for us. She wants the handbag lovers of the world to get a rise out of what she is doing to her bag. And how can you not? Her last Hermes Birkin was taken over by what looked like a Sharpie marker with a message to her Japanese fans.
This Birkin has been taken over with studs, and not just any studs, seemingly sharp studs. The kind of studs that can poke you and get an “Ouch” reaction from your mouth. And when you inspect the bag closely, they are not perfectly set apart, rather tried to be somewhat in pattern but it is a bit of a free-form design.

Dresses were pulled, stars were dressed, Johnny Weir was fabulous, The Rodge was a total and utter buffoon for an hour. In some ways, this show doesn’t change a whole lot from episode to episode. It’s kind of a one-trick pony, but luckily I love that one trick.
Last time we saw our fashion warriors, they were in Milan and, well, they’re still there! Very little time-lapse between these fashion week episodes, eh? It was Armani/Gucci/Pucci day in Italy and Rodger ate some pasta, apparently for breakfast. Italians: do you guys really eat pasta for breakfast? If so, I’m jealous. I may even be more jealous of the copious pasta consumption than I was of the fashion show attendance. I’m on a diet, so I feel like that’s entirely justified.
Unfortunately for Rachel, after the last three shows in Milan all of her clients were still going naked to the Oscars, except for maybe Demi. It must be difficult to pick dresses for the most scrutinized fashion event in the world, particularly when you know that most of the scrutinizers don’t react well to anything but straightforward glamour. At some point during these scenes, some sort of mention was made of The Rodge and a blow-up doll or something, but I’ve blocked it out of my head because the mental picture was too horrifying.
Back in Los Angles, Rachel was yakking with Brad and Jordan about something or other, and out from the television the words JOHNNY WEIR jumped and hit me in the face. I LOVE JOHNNY WEIR. He so fabulous and unreasonable and totally himself that his inclusion in this episode made me unnaturally happy.
Speaking of “unnaturally happy,” next up was a trip to…jewelry. Van Cleef? I think it was Van Cleef. I don’t remember. There was too much sparkle, and it completely wiped out my ability to think thoughts or form words or use letters. The jewelry man had on a single glove. Single. Glove. With no irony. Admittedly I don’t shop for much fine jewelry, so perhaps that’s common, but it struck me as almost absurdist in its hilarity.
Back at Johnny Weir central, err, the office, Rachel was wearing Joseph The Chicken’s Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat O’ Feathers in anticipating of Johnny’s arrival and then Johnny Weir put on some high heels and strutted around, at which point I died of an overdose of happy right there. I then came back from the dead, and Brad and Johnny were doing figure skating poses on the floor. It was one big, fantastic, gay lovefest dunked in glitter, and I want to move to whatever planet these people came from.
When things snapped back into reality (if ANYTHING on this show can really be referred to as reality), the blue Pucci dress had been delivered and, uh, there was a feather issue. Major. Feather. Oscar time isn’t a good time to be sick, since it seemed like Brad basically wanted her fired right then and there. Kinda harsh, but for anyone who has made it through an eleven-hour day by virtue of constant swigs straight from an orange bottle of Dayquil and a $5.99 meatloaf lunch scarfed down in 20 minutes at the diner around the corner (It was also the day after Thanksgiving. INTERNING BLOWS.), the fact that she should have shown up and played hurt was already self-evident at that point.
The dress hunt continued without Ashley, and although Cameron had been confirmed for an Oscar de la Renta dress, Rachel was dependent on Versace to come through so that Demi wouldn’t go naked. Rachel showed up at the atelier to be presented with two dresses: one looked like the (losing) product of a Project Runway challenge where the contestants could only use tin foil and gum wrappers to make couture, and the other one was…heaven. Heaven in a dress. It’s also the one that Demi actually ended up wearing, and I remembered it as soon as Rachel entered the room. THAT’s the sign of a good dress.
While Rachel was later getting groomed to go to a party, The Rodge was in the background as always, pouting and whimpering and feeling sorry for himself because he wasn’t having any fun. He apparently has no problem spending the money that Rachel makes, but he doesn’t want her to be anything but pregnant, quiet and sexually available. Thankfully, Rachel’s hair gay told them both to stop being so awful, although it was mostly just The Rodge who was harshing my mellow.
Things were a little snippy the next morning too, when The Rodge was upset that someone had come to inconvenience him by cutting his hair in his very own apartment and that the Hair Gay was flipping pages in a magazine too loudly and that Rachel was on speakerphone, even though the use of speakerphone is one the the Covenants of Reality Television, as dictated by our supreme overlord Andy Cohen. Rachel finally called him out for it, telling him that all he had to do was have brunch and go to viewing parties and not do any actual work, and he reverted straight back to being a five-year-old. If he had had a ball, he would have gathered it up and gone home. As it was, he sat in the car and took a nap.
The Oscars finally happened and Cameron didn’t miss the carpet and Demi didn’t go naked, and it was all a great triumph. Brad ate some Doritos and cruised some daddies outside of Rachel’s building, and then he and Rachel had a little celebration while The Rodge continued to act irritated and roll his eyes so hard that I’m surprised they didn’t get stuck that way.
EXCEPT, WAIT. FASHION EMERGENCY. JOHNNY WEIR IS WEARING THE SAME THING AS ANOTHER PERSON AT HIS TABLE AT THE ELTON JOHN PARTY.
But before we talk about that, can we talk about the Johnny Weir Bluefly commercial that happened at approximately this point in the show (at least on the East Coast) for a second? The Balenciaga tree? I died for the second time this episode. You guys know how much of a Balenciaga fangirl I am, and he had such AMAZING COLORS. And he had Joseph The Chicken’s Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat O’ Feathers! Which he got in this episode! But not from Bluefly, so that’s sort of false advertising, right? Kinda?
Anyway, the suit thing with Johnny wasn’t Team Zoe’s doing, but Brad saved the day by referencing the perfect episode of Beverly Hills 90210 and sending a bunch of blazers over to the event. Don’t you wish you had a friend like that, who could just make a bunch of fabulous clothes appear when you’re feeling insecure about your outfit?

Unfortunately, the episode just couldn’t end on a good note. It had to end on a Rodger note. He was back again, complaining about the Oscars and how they weren’t important even though they’re basically the most important thing that Rachel’s company, of which he is the president, does all year. He also nearly backhanded her for calling him Mr. Zoe and then told her that he just wanted her to have a kid so that he’d have a buddy. HEY RODGE, NOT A GREAT REASON TO HAVE A KID THAT YOUR WIFE DOESN’T REALLY WANT.

Dresses were pulled, stars were dressed, Johnny Weir was fabulous, The Rodge was a total and utter buffoon for an hour. In some ways, this show doesn’t change a whole lot from episode to episode. It’s kind of a one-trick pony, but luckily I love that one trick.
Last time we saw our fashion warriors, they were in Milan and, well, they’re still there! Very little time-lapse between these fashion week episodes, eh? It was Armani/Gucci/Pucci day in Italy and Rodger ate some pasta, apparently for breakfast. Italians: do you guys really eat pasta for breakfast? If so, I’m jealous. I may even be more jealous of the copious pasta consumption than I was of the fashion show attendance. I’m on a diet, so I feel like that’s entirely justified.
Unfortunately for Rachel, after the last three shows in Milan all of her clients were still going naked to the Oscars, except for maybe Demi. It must be difficult to pick dresses for the most scrutinized fashion event in the world, particularly when you know that most of the scrutinizers don’t react well to anything but straightforward glamour. At some point during these scenes, some sort of mention was made of The Rodge and a blow-up doll or something, but I’ve blocked it out of my head because the mental picture was too horrifying.
Back in Los Angles, Rachel was yakking with Brad and Jordan about something or other, and out from the television the words JOHNNY WEIR jumped and hit me in the face. I LOVE JOHNNY WEIR. He so fabulous and unreasonable and totally himself that his inclusion in this episode made me unnaturally happy.
Speaking of “unnaturally happy,” next up was a trip to…jewelry. Van Cleef? I think it was Van Cleef. I don’t remember. There was too much sparkle, and it completely wiped out my ability to think thoughts or form words or use letters. The jewelry man had on a single glove. Single. Glove. With no irony. Admittedly I don’t shop for much fine jewelry, so perhaps that’s common, but it struck me as almost absurdist in its hilarity.
Back at Johnny Weir central, err, the office, Rachel was wearing Joseph The Chicken’s Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat O’ Feathers in anticipating of Johnny’s arrival and then Johnny Weir put on some high heels and strutted around, at which point I died of an overdose of happy right there. I then came back from the dead, and Brad and Johnny were doing figure skating poses on the floor. It was one big, fantastic, gay lovefest dunked in glitter, and I want to move to whatever planet these people came from.
